Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Point of Sale (PoS) activity in Saudi Arabia has seen significant growth in recent years, triggered by the Kingdom’s push towards a cashless economy and the widespread adoption of digital payment solutions.
According to recent figures by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), PoS sales slightly rose to SAR 171.2 billion during the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024 from SAR 167.4 billion in Q3-24. The PoS transaction surpassed 2.7 billion in Q4-24.
The number of PoS terminals rose to 1.9 million in Q4-24, making a humble increase from 1.8 million in the previous quarter.
In December, the number of PoS transactions reached 935 million, with sales valued at SAR 59 billion. The number of PoS terminals exceeded 1.9 million in the same month.
The food and beverages (F&B) sector seized the largest share of PoS sales in Q4-24, totaling SAR 25.9 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafés sector with sales worth SAR 25 billion.
On the other side, the number of e-commerce transactions processed through Mada cards hit 305 million in Q4-24, with sales amounting to over SAR 55 billion.
