Cairo - Sharikat Mubasher: Reme-D, an Egypt-based biotechnology startup, successfully secured $500,000 investment from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF) to expand its operations and scale accessible molecular diagnostics across Africa and the Middle East.
Reme-D will use the new funding to accelerate its commercial expansion into Nigeria and Libya, scale manufacturing capabilities, and advance research into genetic diseases, oncology, and maternal health diagnostics, the company announced in a statement yesterday.
Founded in 2022, Reme-D develops PCR testing kits that remain stable at room temperature, eliminating the need for cold-chain logistics. It leverages nanotechnology and lyophilization techniques to enable cost-effective and reliable diagnostics in infrastructure-constrained environments.
This technology reduces operational costs by up to 40% while minimizing reagent waste and improving testing reliability, particularly in regions with limited access to consistent electricity.
Reme-D established a growing footprint across Egypt, Iraq, Sudan, and Kenya, supporting 92 healthcare facilities and testing approximately 50,000 patients monthly.
