Sharikat Mubasher: Lucid, the global manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs), partnered with Uber and Nuro to launch a next-generation premium global robotaxi program, designed exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform.
The new robotaxi service, set to be launched in a major US city in 2026, combines Lucid Gravity’s software-defined vehicle architecture with the scalability and capability of the Nuro Driver™ Level 4 autonomy system and Uber’s wide global network and dynamic fleet management, the company announced in a recent statement.
As part of this partnership, Uber will deploy over 20,000 Lucid vehicles equipped with the Nuro Driver™ over six years and plans to inject multi-hundred-million-dollar investments in Lucid and Nuro.
Marc Winterhoff, Interim CEO at Lucid, said: “This investment from Uber further validates Lucid's fully redundant zonal architecture and highly capable platform as ideal for autonomous vehicles, and our industry-leading range and spacious, well-appointed interiors, as ideal for ridesharing.”
"We're thrilled to partner with Nuro and Lucid on this new robotaxi program, purpose-built just for the Uber platform, to safely bring the magic of autonomous driving to more people across the world,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber.
Moreover, the robotaxi will leverage Lucid Gravity's advanced technology platform and redundant electrical and control architectures. Meanwhile, Nuro's Level 4 self-driving system combines automotive-grade hardware and AI-powered self-driving software designed for reliability and cost-efficiency at scale.
