Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: Riyadh witnessed the official launch of Google Pay in Saudi Arabia on Monday during the Money20/20 Middle East conference, marking a major step for the Kingdom’s digital payments landscape.
The event also saw the signing of an agreement to enable AliPay+ payments in Saudi Arabia through the country’s national payments network Mada, operated by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).
Notably, SAMA and Google had signed an agreement on 15 January 2025 to roll out Google Pay during 2025 via the Mada network. The service allows users to make secure in-store, in-app, and online transactions, and to easily add and manage Mada and digital credit cards through the Google Wallet app.
The three-day conference, running September 15–17 at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center, brings together leading financial and technology executives under the patronage of the Finance Minister, with participation from the Financial Sector Development Program (FSDP), SAMA, the Capital Market Authority, and the Insurance Authority.
