Riyadh - Sharikat Mubasher: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) announced that the Saudi capital secured the Global Active City (GAC) certification, becoming the first city in the Middle East to receive this designation.

In a statement, RCRC affirmed that this recognition underscores its efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, physical activity, and community well-being for all.

The Global Active City certificate reflects Riyadh’s progress in infrastructure, programs, governance systems, and policy frameworks designed to improve quality of life, strengthen community participation, and support sustainable well-being.

Ibrahim Al-Sultan, CEO of the RCRC, stated that this achievement mirrors the ongoing support and ambitious vision of the Kingdom’s leadership, which enabled Riyadh to make significant progress in improving quality-of-life indicators across the city, aligning with Vision 2030 objectives.

The Global Active City certification, awarded by the Active Well-being Initiative, recognizes cities that excel in creating opportunities for active living and implementing targeted systems and standards that encourage physical activity across all segments of society.

This achievement further reaffirms RCCRC’s commitment to transforming the capital into a city that enables residents and visitors to live healthier, more active lifestyles, in alignment with the objectives of Vision 2030 and the Quality of Life Program.

Moreover, the certification process was led by RCRC, with the support and participation of the Ministry of Sport, Saudi Sports for All Federation, and more than 20 relevant entities.
