Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) announced the commencement of construction for a hazardous medical waste recycling and treatment facility in the Third Industrial City of Jeddah.
This project is a partnership between the Medical Waste Treatment Company (Wazeen), a subsidiary of SIRC, and the global company SUEZ, as per a recent press release.
The construction phase is expected to be completed, and the trial operation of the facility is set to begin in November of this year.
The project aims to provide integrated solutions for hazardous medical waste management in line with the latest environmental and health standards by leveraging advanced international expertise in the field to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Khaled Al-Badani, CEO of Wazeen, emphasized that the facility for recycling and treating hazardous medical waste is part of SIRC's efforts to support environmental sustainability and promote a circular economy, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transformation Program.
He noted that Wazeen aims to offer comprehensive services, including the collection and transportation of hazardous medical waste from various healthcare facilities in both the public and private sectors while adhering to the highest standards of environmental safety at every stage of treatment and recycling.
Additionally, Wazeen seeks to raise community awareness about best practices for handling hazardous medical waste to ensure environmental and public health safety, as outlined in SIRC’s goals.
Regarding the project's implementation, Al-Badani stated that it will cover all healthcare facilities across various sectors, enhancing the efficiency of hazardous medical waste management and ensuring adherence to approved national and international standards. He also highlighted Wazeen’s commitment to providing innovative and sustainable solutions that contribute to environmental protection and sustainable development in the Kingdom.
This will be achieved through the adoption of advanced technologies and modern operational methods that meet the healthcare sector's needs while supporting the Kingdom’s transition toward a more sustainable environment.
It is worth noting that this initiative is part of a series of pioneering projects undertaken by SIRC to support the Kingdom’s waste management initiatives and achieve environmental sustainability. These efforts are being realized through strategic partnerships with leading global companies specializing in this field.
