Cairo – Sharikat Mubasher: Businesses are placing greater focus on climate adaptation and resilience as climate-related risks increasingly affect operations, supply chains, and growth, according to the Capgemini Research Institute’s fifth edition of ‘A World in Balance: The resilience reset’ Report.

The report found that 68% of executives said their organizations actively prioritize climate adaptation, up from 56% in 2025. Nearly nine in 10 organizations reported that climate-related events have disrupted their supply chains.

More than seven in 10 organizations said access to critical resources, including energy, water, and materials, now has a greater influence on sustainability decisions than emissions-reduction targets. In addition, 61% of executives expect water scarcity to become a greater constraint on business growth than energy availability over the next five years.

Despite these efforts, progress toward net-zero targets remains challenging. 84% of organizations said they have set science-based targets, but only 42% said they are on track to meet their 2030 or interim targets. Meanwhile, 29% said they have postponed their net-zero objectives, compared with 8% in 2025.

AI is also becoming part of sustainability efforts, with nearly two-thirds of organizations using AI to advance their sustainability agenda. However, just over one-third of executives said their organizations measure the energy consumption and associated carbon footprint of AI systems and workloads.

Looking ahead, 83% of organizations expect to increase climate adaptation spending over the next 12 to 18 months. The research surveyed 2,100 executives at 701 organizations across 13 countries and 12 industries in June and July 2026.
