Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) approved Saudi Arabia’s proposal to establish a council of ministers of cybersecurity, with its general secretariat and executive office to be based in Riyadh.

Approved during the OIC’s 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the new body will serve as the organization’s main reference for cybersecurity matters and bring together cybersecurity authorities from its 57 member states, according to a recent press release by the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA).

The council aims to strengthen cooperation among member states, protect critical infrastructure and national security, and coordinate their interests in international organizations addressing cybersecurity.

Majed Al-Mazyed, Governor of the NCA, said the initiative responds to growing cyber threats that increasingly affect critical infrastructure, essential services, and national interests.

He added that the council would build on Saudi Arabia’s efforts to promote international cybersecurity cooperation, including initiatives such as the Global Cybersecurity Forum and the Arab Cybersecurity Ministers Council.

The establishment of the new body reflects the OIC’s support for Saudi Arabia’s role in advancing international cybersecurity initiatives, Al-Mazyed said, adding that the council is expected to strengthen collaboration among member states.

The OIC, headquartered in Jeddah, is the world’s second-largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations, representing 57 member states.
